Mafia Akter

Mafia Akter is a 13 years old girl who lives in a slum called Korail at Dhaka city in Bangladesh. She currently studies at T&T Girls School in class 9. She has a brother named Umar Faruk who is also a student and a sister Maria Akter.

Mafia Akter is the daughter of Mahbub Alam (41); a shop keeper who starts working from 8 AM to 9 PM and is the only working member of the family. Rekha Akter (37) is Mafia Akter’s mother and is a housewife.

Mafia’s family earning is barely 100 USD every month. They live in a very congested area in a single room which is where they have to carry out all their activities including sleeping, eating and studying Which is very difficult because they barely have enough to buy their children books and pencils and afford education.

Mafia’s parents want their children to get a GPA 5 on their SSC and HSC degree and continue higher and education through scholarship. Mafia Akter is a very bright student; she wants to contribute to society by becoming a teacher someday. She likes art, she is very eager for her next lessons; she is very attentive at class and is regular at school. Despite all this, Mafia’s father does not earn enough to support his children for the years yet to come without external sponsorship.
