Jhuma Akter

Twelve yeara old Jhuma Akter is studying in class/grade 4. Shuroj Ali, her father is fifty years old. He is working as a conductor now. Her mother, Rawshan Ara Begum, thirty five, is a house worker. Jhuma has two brothers and three sisters.

Jhuma’s parents came to Dhaka at 2012 from Sylhet in search of work. They live in two rooms of a Tin Shed house. Water drops into the room if it rains. Jhuma does not have any table for study. There is only one toilet for eight families in their slum.

Jhuma is also dreaming to be a doctor. She likes to study her school books. Drawing is her hobby. She is a very polite girl. She doesn’t love to be naughty.

Her parents cannot support her as she needs. It may affect her educational development and her study if this crisis situation continues. How long can they fight poverty? Intervention is urgent for Jhuma.
