Aslam

 

Eleven years old Aslam goes to Educo Pathshala School. He is currently studying in grade 6. When he grows up, he aspires to be a doctor. His family moved to Dhaka when his parents were children. They could not correctly recall the exact year of arrival in Dhaka when asked.

 

Aslam’s father, MD. Apon is a 45-year-old, working as a driver. His day of work begins at 6AM and ends at 9 PM. Asma Begum is Aslam’s mother. She is 35 years old and serves as a house worker.

 

Aslam’s parents earn around BDT 15,000 every month which is around USD 180. The family lives in a tin shed house in 1 room. There is no space for studying the room. It consists of a bed to accommodate the family members at night. Outside the room, the house contains 2 bathroom that is shared by 10 families.

 

Aslam is a bright, hardworking child. He is regular to school and also attends the project regularly. He is very studious. He finishes all his homework in time and anticipates learning new things every day. He is interested in sports and computers. Aslam’s parents are also very optimistic about education. His mother checks on his progress at school and at Alingan regularly. Aslam’s parents motivate their children to study and they will make no compromises when it comes to the education of their children. This family, with their limited income, can really use external sponsorship so they can support Aslam throughout his student life.
