Hamida Akter

Little Hamida is nine years old. She is currently enrolled in Madrasha School (Islamic teaching school). She wants to grow up to be a doctor. Her family moved to Dhaka in 1995 from Comilla in search of work.

Her father is Selim Bhuiya, thirty four years old. He is a service provider and he is the only earning member of this family. Thirty-two-year-old Shanjida Akter is her mother. She is a housewife. Hamida has two brothers, Shajidur.

Their family income is about USD 120 per month. They are living in a single room of a tin shed house, they use a toilet sharing among six families. The children have no table for studying.

Hamida has a long way to go since she is still so young. It will be difficult for her father to carry the responsibility himself for the education of his two children without external help from sponsorships.
