Umar Faruk

Faruk is a 7 year old boy in a slum called Koraiyale at Dhaka city in Bangladesh. He is currently studying at Korail Pathshala in class 1. Faruk is the brother of Mafia Aktar who is also a student and Maria Aktar who is an infant.

Faruk is the son of Mahbub Alam (36); a shop keeper who starts working from 8 AM to 9 PM and is the only working member of the family. Rekha Begum (32) is Faruk’s mother and is a housewife.

Faruk’s family earning is barely 90 USD every month. They live in a very congested area in a single room which is where they have to carry out all their activities including sleeping, eating and studying Which is very difficult because they barely have enough to buy their children books and pencils and afford education.

Faruk’s parents want their children to get a GPA 5 on their SSC and HSC degree and continue higher and education through scholarship. Faruk is a very obedient; he hopes to save lives by becoming a doctor some day. He likes playing football with his friends, he also likes reading. He is very attentive at class and is regular at school. Despite all this, Faruk’s father does not earn enough to support his children for the years yet to come without external sponsorship.
